A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a 16-year-old girl on July 22 at an agricultural field at Mothepalayam in Coimbatore, according to The Times of India.

The accused, K Dinesh from Mothepalayam, worked as a loading labourer at a banana plantation and was staying at Mothepalayam. The police reportedly  told TOI that the girl had seen Dinesh watching porn videos on his phone and had warned him that she will inform his parents.

K Sugavanam, police inspector of the Mettupalayam police station informed the media that Dinesh had apparently asked the girl to perform acts that he had seen on the porn video and when the girl had tried to flee, he ended up raping and later strangling her to death.

Her parents had filed a missing complaint with the police. Dinesh had also joined the family in their search for their daughter. On Thursday, two farm workers found a decomposed body in a field and informed Mohankumar -the farm owner- who in turn informed the police.

The police who had harboured suspicions about Dinesh following investigations, took him into custody. During interrogation, the suspect supposedly confessed to the crime.

The body has been sent for post-mortem to Coimbatore Medical College.
