The deceased, Deepika, a second-year BA student was found dead in a dry canal with various head injuries in her village Appurasaputhur on September 20, according to PTI. She went missing the previous night.

On Thursday, Arasan, (21), surrendered before police on Wednesday night. Police also arrested his friend Rajmohan in this case.

According to police, Arasan confessed of hitting her with the handle of an axe following an argument over her marriage arrangements with another person. Rajmohan was with them at that time and they both fled the scene on a two-wheeler.

Both Arasan and Rajmohan were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
