Madurai Central Jail inmate killed, accused blames ‘black magic’ for the act

A 33-year-old prisoner died on Tuesday late night after a clash broke out between cell mates at Madurai Central Jail.

The alleged attacker claimed that he was assaulted by the deceased first and after that he was under the influence of ‘Black magic’, a senior police official said.

A judicial level inquiry has been initiated into the matter.

Authorities identified the deceased as M Senthil, a citizen of Kamarajapuram near Valathopu of Madurai.

The accused fellow remand prisoner has been identified as S Senthil Kumar (32) of Madurai district.

According to police, they found Senthil in a pool of blood after hearing an alarm and took him to the nearby Government funded Rajaji Hospital where he died later.

Police sources told TNIE that Kumar was in jail since January 2016 for throwing a stone at his father’s head following an altercation. He was also given psychiatric treatment in jail.

The deceased Senthil, was in jail since May 2015 in a case related to violence.

The family of the deceased has questioned the security of inmates in the prison following the incident.
