The News Minute | December 13, 2014 09.21 am ISTOne judge’s views on requirement of enforced prohibition has been taken up by the first bench of the Madras High Court as a separate PIL. Saying that prohibition was a decision to be taken up by the government, the Madras HC has decided to heat the PIL itself, reported the New Indian Express. The judge, Justice N Kirubakaran also felt that many families were drowning in alcohol while drinking water was scarce in most parts of the country, said the report. Despite liquor remaining a ‘poison to society’ , the government keeping liquor shops and bars open was solely to gain revenue, he said. Liquor sale in Tamil Nadu remains a government- managed service, with the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation(TASMAC) making revenue for the government.
