It would have been fun to attend a hearing at the Madras High Court on Thursday.

If media reports are to be believed, it seems the court room of the first bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice TS Sivagnanam turned into police selections ground, with police recruitment officials turning up with measuring tapes to measure the chest size of six Sub-Inspector applicants who had been rejected for not having the required chest-size.

The Times of India reports, 

The high court turned into selection spot with officials of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) descending on the campus with measurement tools to conduct the exercise in the presence of the court registrar (vigilance). The results were astonishing. All six candidates huffed and puffed and expanded their chests enough to meet the criterion, and they came within the zone of consideration on that count.

However, the bench found merit in only two cases, those of Ganesan and Elangovan. It rejected the pleas of the remaining four for various reasons including faulty declaration of normal chest size.

The case apparently started with "petitions filed by the rejected candidates, claiming that the TNUSRB selectors had made faulty entries and the deserving candidates were deliberately rejected in order to appoint the kin of serving police officials in the sports quota category" as per ToI.

Rules state that candidates should have natural chest-size of 81cm or more, and an expanded-chest size of 86cm and more. In the case of two of the applicants, it was found that the earlier measurements were wrong.
