Madras HC provides temporary relief to Sun Group; quashes cable tv cancellation order

Written by : TNM

The News Minute | September 05, 2014 | 11.02 AM ISTThe Madras High Court has temporarily set aside the orders of the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) ministry cancelling the cable TV operator license of Kal Cables, the holding company of Sun Group's cable TV network, over the lack of security clearance. One of the reasons provided for granting the temporary relief to Kal Cables was due to the non-issuance of show cause notice by the I&B ministry before cancellation of the licence. After the I&B ministry issued an order on 20th August, 2014 denying “security clearance to manufacturers KAL Cables Pvt Limited for registration as MSO”, Kal Cables had approached the Madras High Court over non-issual of a show cause notice by the ministry. The relief for the Maran brothers is temporary as the HC said that once a new show cause notice is issued by the I&B ministry, fresh action can be re-initiated against Kal Cables.
