Chennaiites are going all out in celebrating their love for Chennai or Madras, 376 years after it was originally formed.

It was on August 22, 1639, exactly 376 years ago , that the city was given a name “Madras” after Francis Day, belonging to the East India Company entered into a deal over a land which currently houses Fort St. George. Thus began the growth of this city.

As week-long celebrations continue across the city in the spirit of this day,  a community page “I am Madras” has hosted a series of photos detailing the city in quite a different way.

Created, shot and compiled by Raunaq Mangottil, have a look at them as you celebrate the Chennai-ness in you.

According to Deccan Chronicle, Raunaq  who handles the Facebook page "I am Madras" came up with the idea during a traffic jam and took two days to get all the shots and match them correctly.
