Live blog: All accused acquitted in 2G case

Written by : TNM Staff

All eyes are on the special CBI court in New Delhi’s Patiala House Court complex as it is set to pronounce its verdict in the alleged 2G spectrum scam case on Thursday morning.

Needless to say, it is one of the biggest alleged scams in independent India. Special Judge OP Saini will decide the fate of former Telecom Minister A Raja, DMK’s Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi and others, including bureaucrats and businessmen.

The special court on Thursday will deliver its verdict in all the three cases in the 2G case — two by the CBI and one by the Enforcement Directorate.

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in 2010 had initially pegged a presumptive loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the taxpayer, the CBI in its chargesheet in April 2011 had estimated a loss of Rs 30,984 crore.

Allegations against former Telecom Minister Raja involve irregularities in allocating national assets of telecom spectrum in lieu of kickbacks. He is also alleged to have knowingly misled the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Others including Kanimozhi and are accused of acting as a conduit for the financial transaction, criminal conspiracy, illegal gratification of public officials, cheating, forgery and criminal breach of trust.
