Jayalalithaa writes to PM, asking centre to approve license for state-run cable network

The News Minute | July 5, 2014 | 4.40 pm ISTTamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has written to the Prime Minister, asking the centre to grant a license for the state-run cable television network, that has been pending with the centre for three years.According to a PTI report published by Business Line, the Tamil Nadu government has sought a Digital Addressable System license for the Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation (TACTV) that was proposed in 2011. Addressing a press conference in Chennai, the Chief Minister said that the UPA government had approved the applications of nine Multi System Operators in the state, but had not cleared the state’s application.She said that TACTV proposed to provide 100 channels for Rs 70 compared to other Multi System Operators which charged anywhere between Rs 150-250, she said.
