Jaya TV staff arrested for leaking Cho-Jayalalithaa video

Last week, a video showing TN Chief Minister Jayalalithaa meeting long-time confidante and adviser Cho Ramaswamy at a hospital in Chennai where he was admitted went viral. A visual editor of Jaya TV, from where the footage was allegedly leaked, as been arrested for leaking out the video.  

The cyber-crime wing of the crime branch registered a case under the IT act against visual editor Shakthivel of Jaya TV.

TOI reports,

“After the video went viral, an internal inquiry was ordered on how the video shot exclusively by Jaya TV leaked... A source said the inquiry found that visual editor Shakthivel, 35, had downloaded it from the channel's system. He sent it through WhatsApp to three of his friends in Dubai and Chennai. From one of these friends, the clip leaked and went viral.”

The two minute video recorded a pleasant conversation between Cho and Jayalalithaa where she encouraged the veteran to get well soon. Jayalalithaa’s is seen in one of her most candid moments in the video, cheering Cho up and laughing along in the conversation. Cho has not been keeping well and had been admitted in the hospital.

Jaya TV is the official mouthpiece of the AIADMK, and a camera crew of the TV channel follows Jayalalithaa for most of her engagements. A close circle of officers and aides around Jayalalithaa have tight controls on information being passed to the public domain.
