Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Sunday signalled at the possibility of a DMDK-BJP alliance following a meeting with DMDK chief Vijaykanth at his residence.

The DMDK however, in a press statement, termed it a courtesy call. 

The union minister addressing the press said, “We had a meaningful and good discussion.”

The minister will be visiting Vijayakanth again on Wednesday, and a meeting with alliance partners such as the Sarath Kumar’s AISMK and other smaller parties will be held on March 12.

Other than hinting at a possible  alliance with the DMDK, the central minister was thorough in his criticism of the two Dravidian parties.

He said, “The people of Tamil Nadu deserve much better and the NDA will be the viable alternative.”

He accused CM and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa for taking credit for the central government’s initiatives.

He said, “The central government sent money for the Chennai floods, but  there were Amma posters on relief material,” mentioning the centre’s Rs 2 crore flood relief fund.

 He went on to say that the Rs2. Kg of rice and Rs 5,000 damages to those with affected houses were central schemes and Jayalaithaa was taking undue credit for that.

He added, “The Rs2/kg of rice was only possible of central government’s Rs 27/kg subsidy.”
