Internal dissent in DMK increases, A Raja faces ire of cadres in Nilgiris

Written by : TNM Staff

Few members from DMK blocked former Union Minister A Raja’s car and raised slogans against the party on Friday seeking a change in the election candidate for the Conoor constituency. The ticket has not bee given for district secretary of Nilgiris, BM Mubharak.

Eyewitnesses say slippers were also thrown at A Raja’s car when he arrived for the meeting. Sitting MLA K Ramachandran and his supporters are protesting as they feel the wrong choice of candidate will lead to party’s defeat in the elections.

However, A Raja managed to reach the meeting place. He also warned the DMK cadres that strict action will be taken against them if they do not follow the high command’s orders.

MLA K Ramachandran told The New Indian Express that first they carried out the protest at Kamaraj Square in Kotagiri Town centre and later conducted a procession at the meeting venue. He also added that he had spoken to A Raja to at least give him the post of district secretary if not being made the candidate from Coonor.  “I informed him that Mubharak cannot be the district secretary and MLA, as the post of district secretary was earmarked from me when I was the MLA,” he told TNIE.
