“I’m searching everywhere but I can’t find the third front,” says Karunanidhi in an interview

DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Saturday took a jibe at the Vijayakant-led third front alliance in Tamil Nadu. In an interview with National English news channel, News X, Karunanidhi said, “I’m searching everywhere for it but cannot find it,” when asked if the third front would create an impact in the upcoming Assembly Elections.

Projecting itself as an alternative to the Dravidian majors, the People’s Welfare Front (PWF) includes Vijayakant’s DMDK, Vaiko’s MDMK, CPM, CPI(M), TMC and the VCK.

He also hit out at arch-rival and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the interview, saying she let down the people of Tamil Nadu during the Chennai floods. He accused Jayalalithaa of being responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people in Chennai for the delay in opening Chembarambakkam reservoir.

The DMK President described the midnight arrest in 2001 as his most painful experience: “Jayalalithaa tortured me, my children and my in-laws. It motivated me to work harder.”

Two years after his older son Alagiri was expelled from the party, Karunanidhi denied any rift within the family, stating, “Those who talk about our family problems are those without dignity and integrity.”

In another interview to Tamil channel Puthiya Thalaimurai, Karunanidhi responded to allegations that DMK members are involved in liquor sales, stating, “If we come to know that any of the party members are selling, we will stop them from doing that.”
