Hindu outfits are so desperate for ghar-wapasi, they hijacked a Filipino's conversion

Representational PictureIf what happened in Chennai yesterday wasn't so tragic, it would be funny.Myra Sagun Guerrero aka Sandhya, a Filipino woman got married to Srinivasan Santhosh Kumar, a Hindu Tamilian, and visited the Dharmapura Aadheenam (Mutt) office in T Nagar so that she could convert to Hinduism legally.Around the same time, reporters began receiving invitations by the Hindu Makkal Katchi(HMK) to cover a "ghar wapsi", the series of conversion programmes conducted by Hindu organisations to convert non-Hindus to Hinduism. But here is the catch, the couple did not know about the HMK's plan.It was to be a simple conversion, so the presence of a number of cadres belonging to HMK came as a surprise for the couple. The couple had met in 2009 in Singapore where Kumar worked as a supervisor with the Singapore Technology Marine, a shipping agency.  They then got married in  a hall at St. Thomas Mount on May 8.The HMK sponsored the 30-minute conversion ritual held on Monday. After media persons turned up at the “Ghar wapsi” programme, the president of HMK, Arjun Sampath, claimed that the newly-married couple had approached the outfit for the conversion. The family however had no knowledge of their involvement. Guerrero, or Sandhya if you would prefer, too  was completely unaware about HMK’s role in her conversion.(Image for representational purpose)
