Hindu Munnani resorts to spitting as a protest against IIT-Madras 'Kiss of Love' event

Written by : TNM

The News Minute | November 18, 2014 | 09:05 am ISTA number of members of the Hindu Munnani were arrested for protesting outsie the IIT-Madras after the institute played host to a ‘Kiss of Love’ campaign last week.As a retort to the conduct of the event, members of the group gathered and started spitting, reported The Hindu. Additionally, they accused the students of dirtying Indian culture and hurled abuse at them, said the report. This ‘spitting protest’ was a response to the ‘Kiss of Love’ event at the Himalaya Mess of the IIT-Madras campus where students gathered, hugged and kissed as a protest against moral policing last week. Many of the members of the Hindu Munnani were arrest while others left the area a while after the protest began. The logic of such protests, however, seems lost as the Munnani workers have gone against the very idea that they are against - dirtying Indian culture. Even as the Swachh Bharat campaign has been initiated across the country, this move of protesting by spitting goes against the very idea of a Clean India initiative. Read Kiss of Love organizers face the wrath of Yuva Morcha Jamaath, TV show disruptedRead Kiss of Love to be held in Kozhikode, but with a twist
