After slitting his throat with a sharp object, P Ramkumar, the prime suspect in the murder of Chennai techie Swathi, is now stable in the intensive care unit in the Tirunelveli Medical College hospital.

After being admitted to the hospital at 1.40am on Saturday, Ramkumar was taken to the emergency ward and was operated on at 1.50am, said Dr Sithy Athiya Munavarah, Dean of the hospital. “A team consisting of a general surgeon, ENT surgeon, anesthetist and staff nurse attended to him,” she said.

“He is in intensive surgical care now and is stable,” she told TNM. “He will be under our care for the next two days and then will be handed over to the police.”

However, Dr Sithy also said that he would find it difficult to speak till his injury is healed. “He can speak once the injury is healed,” she said.

The police had zeroed down on Ramkumar’s involvement in Swathi’s murder after noticing that both of their phones had been switched off since the crime.

When they located him and surrounded him in Tirunelveli, Ramkumar attempted to kill himself. He is believed to have received 18 stitches in his throat.
