The Tamil Nadu Fee Determination Committee has taken suo motto notice of news reports against the adoption of a discriminatory fee structure and has ordered for a government inspection at the CBSE-affiliated school in Adyar, the Bala Vidya Mandir(BVM).The notice issued on June 1 by the Singaravelan committee called for an inspection by the Joint Director of the Directorate of School Education to inspect and verify whether the courses at the school are commensurate as per the affiliation or are illegally conducted.An earlier circular issued by the school to parents said that the fees allocated by the Fee Determination Committee did not consider facilities provided in the campus, but instead fixed prices based on what was sufficient for the school. In the notice, the Singaravelan committee said that the move amounted to distorting the fee set by the TN-appointed body.It also said that arbitrary fixation of fees for classes by the school could be illegal and a violation of the Statute.
