Fire in Sivakasi cracker shop kills one, two others sustain 80 percent burns

​One man was killed and two others critically injured after a fire broke out in a cracker shop in Bharati Nagar area in Sivakasi on Saturdaynight.

In the darkness of the night, the magnitude of fire at the cracker shop in Sivakasi was not known, reported The Hindu.

Police identified the deceased as D Thangavel (50) of Hussian Colony. He was riding on motorbike along with his relative S Muthaih(47). The duo and another person Alwin Sridhar (37) from Hussain colony were trapped in the fire, which broke out at around 9:40 pm.

While Thangavel succumbed to injuries, Muthiah and Sridhar have sustained 80 percent burns. They have been admitted to the Government hospital.

The police said that fire from Muthu Traders, a cracker shop, spread to several other shops and a few autorickshaws were also destroyed.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel, along with five fire tenders, from Sivakasi, Sattur and Srivilliputtur, took nearly two hours to put out the flames.​
