Finnish woman found dead in Chennai hotel, companion detained

A 22-year-old Finnish woman was found dead inside a hotel room in Chennai's Triplicane area on Wednesday. Following this, the police detained her companion, Aleksi Joel Santeri, who is also from Finland and has been touring the country with her. 

Helea Emilia was found dead in Hotel Himalaya at 7.20 am on Wednesday morning. Hotel staff alerted the police after Aleksi shouted for help. The two Finnish nationals had arrived in Chennai on Tuesday morning.Reports claims a case of drug overdose is suspected. 

Talking to TNM, an investigating official said, "There were no external injuries on her body and we have to wait for the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death. We have detained her companion and he is being questioned."

The police also confirmed that the two tourists were supposed to leave Chennai and return to Delhi on Wednesday night. 

According to reports, both Finnish nationals had returned to their hotel room – room number 207 – on Tuesday evening and had not stepped out following that.
