The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has taken disciplinary action against a bus driver and conductor after a Class 12 student was forced to frantically chase after a moving bus to reach her examination centre, endangering herself.
The incident, which occurred near Kothakottai in Tirupattur district on Tuesday, March 25, sparked widespread outrage after a video of the girl running after the bus went viral on social media.
According to reports, the girl is a student of Nimmiyambattu Government Higher Secondary School, which also serves as her examination centre. The school is located approximately three kilometres from the Kothakottai bus stop.
The video shows the girl waiting at the bus stop for her ride to the examination centre. However, instead of stopping, the bus driver sped away, leaving her behind. Desperate not to miss her exam, the student chased after the vehicle, risking her safety in the process.
Following wide public outcry, TNSTC suspended the driver, Muniraj, who was employed at the Ambur Workshop. In an official statement, the transport department confirmed that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against him. Meanwhile, the conductor, Ashok Kumar, a contract employee, was terminated from service with immediate effect.
