Animal welfare activists have found that the community dogs brought to Pulianthope corporation pound were mishandled, as their wounds were not properly attended to, which led to their intestines hanging out.

The Times of India reports that Sowcarpet resident T Mohana brought this to the notice of Society for Prevention of Cruelty for Annimals (SPCA) after she found her pet with open wounds.

She filed a complaint with SPCA after she found her pet that was caught by corporation workers on June 24, with the surgery wound open and the intestines hanging out. Mohana’s pet underwent birth control surgery on June 28. 

“An SPCA inspector found my pet in isolation. The pound authorities covered the stitches again,“ she told TOI.

Thyagarajan, secretary of SPCA said that the wounds indicate the surgery was done in haste. Activists pointed out that the requirements of dressing the wounds regularly after surgery and providing antibiotics were not followed. They also raised concern over the possibility of the surgeries not being performed by a competent surgeon.

Shekhar, an animal lover, who visited the pound a few days ago, said that he found almost a dozen dogs with their intestines hanging out.

Animal welfare activists allege that the condition is similar at the corporation pound in Llyod road.
