Dravidian major DMK on Thursday replaced its candidate from Alangudi following protests from a section of its party workers.

The nomination process for candidates for the forthcoming May 16 elections begins on Friday.

Satish, who was the earlier candidate, will now be replaced by Meiyyanathan reported Puthiya Thalaimurai TV . This change has supposedly been triggered by constant protests from the party cadre, who were unhappy with Satish’s candidature.

Meyyanathan is the party union chairman for Aranthagi. His supporters have been up in arms, ever since Satish had been declared as the candidate, demanding that the party consider Meyyanathan as the candidate. They had carried out processions bearing black flags as a sign of their discontent with the party’s decision.

It was earlier reported when the selection of Satish for the Alangudi seat in Pudhukottai was also protested by party cadres. They staged a street protest and argued that Meiyanathan, a senior party worker deserved the seat instead of Satish, who is a relatively new to the party.
