DMK guns for Jayalalithaa photo in Amma canteens

DMK today alleged violation of the model code of conduct in the poll-bound Tamil Nadu and asked the Election Commission of India to ensure that it was promptly implemented.

Party chief M Karunanidhi said instances of violation of the model code of conduct (MCC) had come to light and these include Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's photos not being removed from the government subsidised 'Amma' Canteens here.

At Mannargudi, represented by DMK MLA TRB Raja, a road-laying project was taken up in violation of MCC recently, Karunanidhi alleged in a statement.

Further opposition parties-run TV channels were not being "given importance" on state-run multi-system operator, Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV (TACTV) even as programmes on government schemes and pictures of Jayalalithaa were being shown all-day, he alleged.

In some districts, Collectors who had put in more than three years of service were still continuing, he claimed.

"Therefore the Election Commission of India should intervene in this matter and ensure justice as there cannot be different set of rules for ruling party and the opposition," he said.

Polls are scheduled in the state on May 16.
