DK’s Veeramani caught 'ullu banaoing'

Written by : TNM

Remember that Idea Cellular ad in which a politician promises water for the village, and then a youngster plays out an old video of him making the same promise and asks him to stop "ullu banaoing"?We have a similar real-life version of that now. Dravida Kazhagam’s president DK Veeramani just got trolled online for his grandstanding on the thaali (Mangal Sutra) issue. On Tuesday, Veeramani courted trouble when his party organised a thaali removal function inviting women from across the state to join in and be a part of it, stating that it is a symbol of oppression of women. Twenty one couples took to the venue in order to remove their thaalis.Even as images of women removing their thaalis went around on social media, another video featuring Veeramani in the exact opposite role was also doing the round. In the video, he was seen solemnising a ‘self-respect’ marriage in 2011, and in fact handed over thaali to the groom to tie it around the bride.Ouch.Double standards, anyone?
