District in Tamil Nadu aiming to achieve total sanitation

The News Minute | September 7, 2014 | 01:20 pm ISTA district in Tamil Nadu, Perambalur, is aiming to achieve total sanitation after initiating a plan to build toilets for all houses under government schemes.Atleast 18,092 toilets are to be built under Nirmal Bharath Abhiyan and 50,343 toilets are to be built under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) according to The Hindu.As of now, 68,435 houses in the district do not have individual toilets. Darez Ahmed, District Collector met village panchayat presidents to discuss the construction of toilets and also take up efforts to ensure no water stagnation occurred once the north-east monsoon set in, said the report. .
