The News Minute| September 20, 2014| 09.30 am ISTA few days before its Diwali release, Vijay-starrer Kaththi has faced renewed trouble from groups over its alleged connections to Sri Lankan President Mahinde Rajapakse. After a press meet by protesters of the film on Monday, official word on the status of the movie release is awaited. However, some theatres say that the movie will release on Diwali as planned, and bookings will commence soon.Earlier in August, 65 organizations had come together in protest against the release of two movies over its Sri Lankan connection , one of them being Kaththi whose producer is said to be close to the Sri Lankan president. TVK chief, Vel Murugan who was part of earlier protests, has been insisting agains the release of the film ,said Times of India. Tamil groups, Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners' Association, exhibitors and distributors in Chennai will soon take a decision on whether the movie will be released. Even if a positive decision is not reached , the film is all set to release in other parts of the country and the world, even if it doesn’t release in Tamil Nadu, said the report. If yes, this will not be the first time a movie has been prevented from release in the state, while released elsewhere. Read Why do bans and protests against some movies suddenly die down?
