Cyclone Fengal has triggered heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, with Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts receiving record levels of rain. As of 10 am on December 2, Uthangarai in Krishnagiri received 503 mm of rain, and Harur in Dharmapuri recorded 331 mm. Visuals from both districts show widespread damage to roads, bridges, and crop fields.
Scenes from the Salem-Tirupattur near the Uthangarai bus stand resemble a fast-flowing river after the Parasaneri lake overflowed, sweeping buses and vehicles off the road. Visuals also show that the lake's overflow poured into nearby settlements, flooding streets and homes.
Chief Minister MK Stalin has reportedly held video calls with Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts and has directed them to expedite relief efforts.
Villupuram received 420 mm leading to water rising above the danger level at suspension of bridge no. 452 (between Vikravandi and Mundiyampakkam). The following trains have been cancelled due to this:
