A judicial magistrate in Melur court on Friday issued summons to Tamil star Dhanush, ordering him to appear before it on January 12, 2017 in connection with a petition filed by a couple from Madurai, who claim he is their son.

The petition was filed by a couple from Melur Taluk in Madurai district, R Kathiresan, (65) and his wife, K Meenakshi, (53), claiming that the actor was their son and they want him to provide maintenance of Rs 65,000 per month.

The petitioner states that the actor is their elder son, Kalaichelvan, and was born to them in 1985 at Rajaji Government Hospital in Madurai. But they claim, he ran away from home to join films in Chennai when he was studying in class 11.

Burdened with debt and suffering from medical issues, the couple approached the court demanding maintenance. They also added that they tried to meet the actor on many occasions but he did not meet them.

The petitioners stated they sent Dhanush a legal notice on October 4, 2016 asking for maintenance but the post returned with “unclaimed” stamped on it.
