A special court in Delhi allowed the police to collect voice samples of AIADMK (Amma) deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran, in the Election Commission bribery case, according to reports.

The police had reportedly sought permission of the court to take consent of Dhinakaran and his co-accused Sukesh Chandrashekar to match their voices with those in the phone calls that they had recovered during their investigation.

Sukesh Chandrashekar had reportedly refused to give consent and Dhinkaran had challenged the maintainability of the plea.

According to the report, 'Dhinakaran argued that there was no provision in Cr.PC which permitted the investigating officer to move an application in the court during the pendency of the investigation to obtain voice sample of an accused'.

His counsel claimed that the court could not permit the police's plea as it would interfere with the investigation itself.  

“As the consent of accused [Dhinakaran] is required for voice matching with the alleged voice of accused contained in the CD, I deem it expedient in the interest of justice to allow the investigating officer [IO] to take requisite steps to obtain consent of accused for giving his voice sample for comparison from CFSL, CBI Lodhi Road, here with alleged voice of accused contained in the CD,” Special Judge Poonam Chaudhry said in the order, according to The Hindu.

There was more trouble for the AIADMK leader after an alleged 'hawala' operator involved in a graft case was arrested on Thursday.

The alleged hawala operator, Lalit Kumar alias Babu Bhai, was presented before Special Judge Poonam Chaudhry who remanded him in police custody till May 20.

Lalit Kumar is accused of giving Rs 1 crore in unaccounted money to middleman Sukesh Chandrashekar through an unidentified person.
