Starting Tuesday, Tirupattur police has launched a search for an absconding couple on charges of torturing and inflicting burn injuries on a two year old girl. According to the police, Bhuvaneshwari is the daughter of Lakshmi and Ashwin Kumar of Bengaluru. They had borrowed Rs. 3000 from Seema while Lakshmi was working with her in a brick kiln near Bengaluru five months ago, reported New Indian Express. Lakshmi and her husband, would leave their children with Seema, and they would work for daily wages in hotels and market areas. Lakshmi had ordered Seema to come to Tirupattur and work there so that she could repay her debt. In this manner, they had been regularly paying Rs. 100 to Seema for the last two months. Then suddenly, Seema demnded that Lakshmi had to pay the remaining amount with interest at the earliest. As a threat, Seema reportedly inflicted burn injuries on a child using a candle. When neighbours heard Bhuvaneshwari’s screams in pain, they informed Lakshmi about the incident. When Lakshmi confronted Seema, Seema assaulted her after a quarrel, said the report. The police have registered a case against Sections 294(b), 323, 324, 506(i) and 506(2) and 23 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act 2000 and launched a search for the absconding couple.
