Drinking could get college students in Tamil Nadu suspended or worse, debarred. This was the order made by the Madras High Court which said upholding the decision made by Vivekanantha College in Thiruvedagam, Madurai when it preventing a student from writing his final semester exam as he was found drunk, reported Times of India .After third year student Thennarasu was found drunk while returning to hostel, he was prevented from writing two arrear papers along with his final semester exam. The college then told him either to get a transfer from the college or skip a year of class.The order made by Justice S Vaidyanathan referred to a SC ruling that a school/college had every right to remove a student who didn't behave as per requirements.According to the report, Justice S Vaidyanathan said, "If a student does not behave properly, and should there be any act of indiscipline, which is not conducive to the interests of the institution, the school/college authorities have every right to send that student out of the college."The case came to court after the student filed a writ petition against the college which has  been following a 'gurukulam' system of education, said the report.
