Coimbatore airport receives bomb scare, police investigations on

Coimbatore airport received a bomb threat on Friday causing a flutter in the city.

The airport director received a letter threatening to bomb the Coimbatore airport if the old pension scheme (CPS) was not brought back.

“We are post-office LIC agents, as temporary teachers, our main demand is that we should paid par with central govt employees and the new pension policy has to be dropped and old pension policy to be implemented. This demand should be accepted by state government. If our demands are not met, we have no option but to blow up the airport,” the letter reads.

The letter was signed by Bhaskaran, Chandrasekharan and B Gowri and stated that they were submitted their voter IDs. 

The letter addressed to the airport director was received in the afternoon. A complaint was filed by the Chief Security Officer of the airport at the Peelamedu police station in Coimbatore. The complaint stated, “As this is a serious offence, the same is hereby intimidated with a copy for further necessary action.”

After the bomb threat was received, the airport security was stepped up and screening was increased inside.
