The News Minute | December 6, 2014 | 09.00 am ISTThe dismal state of Chennai’s roads have made their way to the Tamal Nadu assembly after members of the opposition took the ruling government to task on the issue. Members of the DMDK, PMK, Left and the Puthiya Tamilagam demanded the government to to put the onus on contractors employed to fix roads as they discussed the state of the city’s roads, reported Times of India. As various members voiced their opinion, SP Velumani, minister of municipal administration and rural development put the blame on the previous DMK regime for the bad roads. Saying that 155 roads had 552 damages, he said that 133 of the damaged roads had been laid by the DMK in 2010-11 who reduced the maintenance contract to one year. The discussion came almost around the same time that the Aam Aadmi Party gave a list of list of all bad roads to the Chnnai Corporation while demanding its immediate repair. AAP collected 2000 signatures from residents during a campaign that demanded better roads, reported The Hindu.
