Written by : TNM Staff

It was a usual day for 30-year-old Aruna R who was travelling from Thiruvanchery to Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Egmore till she ended up having labour pain on the Tambaram-Chennai EMU and delivered a baby boy right there with the help of women passengers on Monday.

She was travelling for her monthly medical examination. At 10:15 am, the woman began to have labour pain. Woman passengers surrounded her and helped to conduct the procedures. Even though the women passengers on the train were successful in pulling out the baby boy, the mother was bleeding and wanted immediate help.

The Saidapet Railway Police Force was informed and the train was stopped for 15 minutes there. The baby weighed about 2.5 kg.

One of the woman constables from RPF Anusuya told TNIE that the ambulance was delayed so she had to call two staff nurses from private nursing home. The mother and child were brought to TTE’s room and placenta was cut. Then she was shifted to Emergency Obstetric Care Hospital in Saidapet.

Aruna told TOI, “The due date was January 1. So I was completely unprepared when it happened.”
