Chennai taxi services plan for website displaying offender list

The News Minute| December 11, 2014| 08.30 am ISTRadio taxi operator services in Chennai have decided to maintain an online database of all their drivers along with a list of defaulters to avoid crimes in the future. The meetings which have been going on since September, much before the recent taxi-service rape incident in Delhi will post a list of all defaulters online to prevent their engagement by others and in this way prevent crimes against passengers, said The New Indian Express.Also, Police Verification Certifiicate (PVC) have been given to 50 per cent of call taxi drivers in Chennai. An idea of implementing a physical GPS in each vehicle along with a ‘panic’ button for passengers was also discussed in the meeting.
