After last week’s protest by the students of Presidency College demanding Student Union elections, this week around 100 students of the college organized a protest again in the college in Chennai.

The University Grants Commission has already sent various notices to various college managements to conduct student elections.

Following the Supreme Court order, the Lyngdoh committee which was asked to look into this issue recommended student elections. However, the President College management has been ignoring the recommendation and avoiding the elections, according to a The New Indian Express report.

After student candidates from different parties were rejected on Monday, it led to injuring of eight students after the police attacked them for protesting against the decision.

The college was closed for two days and re-opened on Thursday, which again saw students protesting in the campus.

The college has also warned the students that they will be suspended for protesting and will not be allowed to write the semester exams, according to students who spoke to The New Indian Express.

The students dispersed after DMK spokesperson held talks with the students. The college was not ready to talk on this issue, according to NIE.
