Written by : TNM Staff

There’s some good news for Chennai as the Kathiri Veyil or Agni Nakshatram (very hot days) has come to an end on Saturday. The Met department has predicted rains in Chennai and a few other districts over the next few days.

The temperature is said to remain around 38 degree Celsius. S Balachandran, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre told The New Indian Express, “There are chances of Kodai Mazhai, or the seasonal summer rainfall, happening as the formation of thunder clouds is high.”

Balachandar also added that the weather was a little unusual for Chennai at this time of the year. On May 17 and 18, it rained heavily and Chennai received 25mm of rain when it was supposed to receive only 2.5mm of rain. The Met department also experienced a temperature deviation of -10 degree Celsius from the normal.

He said that during last month, the temperature stayed 2 to 5 degrees above normal on most of the days but this month there has not seen much variation, according to TNIE.

Pradeep John who forecasts weather, wrote on his blog Tamil Nadu Weatherman, “The days of 28-31st are the ones possible for Veppa Salanam. Rains will start in Vellore belt but not sure whether this will come to Chennai or not. The rains will last for 20-30 mins.”
