The Chennai city police have reportedly arrested a mechanic from Madurai for the alleged murder of 22-year-old E Nivedhita in Chennai, who was found dead at a lodge in the city late on Thursday evening.

According to media reports, the police traced the call details from her mobile phone and narrowed down on Suresh Kumar. Police nabbed him from his house in Madurai and brought him to Chennai for questioning, and a court remanded him in judicial custody on Saturday, reported TOI.

Nivedhita, who was living in Veera Perumal Koil Street in Mylapore, was last seen by her family on Wednesday evening. She was found dead on Thursday night at the Picnic Plaza lodge in Mylapore.

While TNIE claims that he murdered her because she was forcing him to marry her, DC reports that an altercation over another boyfriend led to her murder.

“He told the police that she had told him that her former boyfriend died, but she received a call from the other boyfriend when she was with Suresh Kumar. This led to an altercation and Suresh killed her,” reports DC.

Suresh had met Nivedhita in Chennai earlier during a visit and they were in touch on Facebook and WhatsApp ever since.

The police are also looking for Suresh Kumar's friend Subash, who went with him to the lodge on Thursday and left in the evening. Police have also collected CCTV footage of the two men in the vicinity.
