The News Minute | December 17, 2014 | 07:24 pm IST In a rare surgery, doctors at Apollo Children’s Hospital, Chennai successfully separated twins, Abriana and Adriana, who were joined at the chest and abdomen. The girls, who shared a single heart cavity and a liver are now, the first survivors of this type of separation in India, states the Apollo hospitals Facebook Page. The twins hail from Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania. A PTI report states that the 11-hour long operation was conducted by a team of 50 staff members, including surgeons, nurses and intensive care specialists, on the eight-and-a-half months Thoraco Omphalopagus twins. This rare procedure involved separation of the pericardium (heart lining), diaphragm and the connected livers.
