A group of eight engineering graduates were arrested on Tuesday for abducting a 50-year-old man, the father of a businessman who allegedly cheated them by collecting money and not providing a job.

The businessman's father, Mohammed Rafiq, was abducted from his house in KK Nagar. Police told The New Indian Expressthat the victim’s son, Imran had charged Rs. 1.60 lakh from the graduates promising them a job. He did not provide them with a job and the graduates filed a complaint with the police. Following this, Imran went into hiding for a month.

The eight arrested graduates are Prasanna, K Aravind, K Hariharan, V Gokul Prasad, R Vinoth Raj, P Vagisan, R Kumar and S Vigneshwaran. 

Imran used to run a placement firm in Valasaravakkam and the graduates had visited his office several times, reported The Times of India.

On Tuesday night, the graduates came to know that Imran’s car was near his friend’s house in KK Nagar. When they reached there, they found Imran’s father Mohammed Rafiq and abducted him in his own car around 11pm, police told TNIE.

After receiving a complaint from Rafiq’s friend, police started the search. They found Rafiq’s car near an advocate’s house on Wednesday and rescued him. According to TNIE, police suspect the involvement of four advocates also in the abduction.

Later, they also arrested Mohammed Rafiq when the graduates told them that he was also part of his son’s business. 

“Since Mohammad's son is involved in the offence, we are questioning his father to trace the whereabouts of his son. Some more people are involved in the abduction. We have launched a manhunt for six of them, who are still at large,” said the investigating officer to ToI.

Reportedly, Imran has several cases of cheating against him. The graduates had filed a police complaint with the job racket wing of the Chennai Crime Branch in August. After Crime Branch started the probe, he closed his office and went absconding.
