CBI turns up the heat, disproportionate assets case filed against A Raja

1. A disproportionate assets case has been filed against former Union minister A Raja, his wife and others over the Rs 1.76 crore 2G spectrum allocation. Raids were conducted in at least 20 places including Tiruchy, Coimbatore, Perambalur and Chennai.

2. Tense scenes were witnessed in Chennai after an AIADMK cadre and his brother climbed mobile phone towers following Congress president EVKS Elangovan’s allegedly controversial remarks about CM Jayalalithaa. Though AIADMK cadres continued to protest and burn effigies of the leader, EVKS on the other hand, refused to apologise over the incident.

3. In Kovalam, at least 15 dogs were shot dead and their bodies thrown in to the sea after instructions allegedly made by the locality’s panchayat president Janakiraman. The incident came to light after a dog was shot dead in front of its owner.

4. The fate of late Sivaji Ganesan’s statue near the Marina beach in Chennai is yet to be decided upon. The Madras HC has adjourned by a week giving time for the TN government to decide on the removal of the statue which had remained a hindrance for vehicular traffic.

5. Music maestro Ilayaraja filed a petition seeking to restrain five audio recording companies from using his film music without copyright. The Madras HC has appointed a retired judge to hear the case and has told Ilayaraja not to enter into any more contracts until a decision in the copyrights issue.
