The News Minute | November 25, 2014 | 08.23 am ISTFollowing a spate of eight murders in six days in Chennai, police investigations have revealed that all of them were conducted by friends and relatives of the victims.Noting the trend, the Chennai Police Commissioner S George said that since they were known to the victims, there was little the police could do to prevent such murders, reported Times of India. Last week’s murder of a 48 year-old woman Manju Devi was cracked by the police and the perpetrator was found to be her husband, Hemaraj Jain in Vepery. Jain tried to stage the scene of the crime to make it appear as if thieves had stolen the money and killed her in the process, reported TOI. However, security cameras nearby showed only Hemaraj entering the house. Over one kg gold had been taken away in the gruesome murder, reported The Hindu. In such cases, social issues behind such crimes need to be sorted out within families to avoid it turning deadly in the future, said the report.
