It’s not every day that you encounter an elephant inside the house? But that’s what happened on Thursday in Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu.

On Thursday, a one-year-old elephant in the Kozhipalam area of Gudalur town, fell into a house after it stepped on the asbestos roof around 3am.

Following this, the mother elephant broke open the back door of the house and pulled out the baby elephant.

The baby elephant fell about 10 feet below into the house.

It had come near the Gudalur Kozhikode National Highway with its mother and fell while trying to pick jackfruit.

Zumila, 30, who resides in the house, was shocked to see the baby elephant in the dining room.

A forest officer told The Times of India that the elephant knocked her down and she had minor injuries.

When the baby elephant was unable to find a way to get out of the house, the mother elephant broke open the back door of the house and pulled the calf out.

Forest officials received information about the incident and took the elephants back to the forest.

Zumila was admitted to Gudalur Government Hospital. However, The New Indian Express reported that no one was injured in the incident.

Zumila was living in the house with her 45-day-old baby and three others.

Last year in July, about six elephants were killed near Kerala-Tamil Nadu border in Coimbatore in the span of a month. This included a 10-year-old elephant that was killed after a train hit the tusker on the Walayar-Ettimadai section, close to Coimbatore border in Kerala.
