Udhayanidhi Stalin, Tamil Nadu’s deputy chief minister, son of Chief Minister MK Stalin and widely seen as his heir apparent, reported assets of Rs 20.64 crore in his affidavit for the upcoming Assembly elections, a dip from the Rs 27 crore he had reported five years ago. Udhayanidhi filed his nomination from the Chepauk constituency in Chennai on Thursday, April 2, the same seat he successfully won in his electoral debut in 2021.

In sharp contrast, the declared assets of his wife, Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, has seen an over 10-fold jump to over Rs 13.25 crore, from Rs 1.15 crore in 2021. According to the affidavit, Kiruthiga has only movable assets in her name, including gold jewellery valued at Rs 1.87 crore and an investment worth Rs 5.76 crore in construction firm Raj Promoters Pvt Ltd, while Udhayanidhi has declared movable assets valued at Rs 12.92 crore and immovable assets, including multiple properties in Chennai and agricultural land elsewhere, valued at Rs 7.72 crore.  Collectively, this translates to an increase in the assets of the family.

In 2021, Udhayanidhi’s movable assets included an investment in Red Giant Movies, his film production and distribution company, valued at Rs 7.3 crore. However, there is no mention of this in the new affidavit though Kiruthiga’s assets include an investment of Rs 2.63 crore in Red Giant, behind the 2026 release Parasakthi and Mani Ratnam’s Thuglife in 2025.

According to filings available with market intelligence platform Tracxn, Red Giant reported revenue of Rs 187 crore for FY24, and a net profit of Rs 11.7 crore. Udhayanidhi’s and Kiruthiga’s son, Inban, was appointed a board member in September 2025.

At Rs 2.92 crore, Kiruthiga’s income for 2024-25 was also several times higher than that of her husband, who has declared an income of Rs 10.4 lakh for the same financial year.

Udhayanidhi has 10 pending criminal cases registered against him, all emerging from a speech he delivered on September 2, 2023 on Sanatana Dharma. He has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for promoting enmity, outraging religious feelings and circulating statements to cause public mischief. This is down from the 22 criminal cases he was booked under when he contested in 2021, all of which were in connection with demonstrations held by DMK, including charges of unlawful assembly and wrongful restraint.
