Another ragging death? Student commits suicide, blames senior

The News Minute | June 24, 2014 | 07:24 pm IST A nineteen-year-old girl has committed suicide in Chennai, and in her suicide note she has blamed a senior in college for ragging her and driving her to take the drastic step. Yohalakshmi, a student of B. Sc., Emergency Trauma Care, at the SRMC Institute in Chennai, was staying in a hostel within the college campus.Police sources says on Monday she hung herself between 10:30 to 11 in the morning and left a suicide note alleging that a particular senior had continuously ragged her and caused mental trauma. But Yohalakshmi’s suicide came to light only in the evening when students came back to the hostel after classes.The police and Yohalakshmi’s parents who live in Kanchipuram were informed. The police have now registered a case against the senior under IPC Section 306 for abetting suicide and 174 CRPC.
