Written by : TNM Staff

With the assembly elections round the corner, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss has dismissed the importance of major Dravidian parties in the coming elections.

He even hinted that the PMK might even go solo for the polls, and instead of joining an alliance is open to accommodate either the AIADMK or DMK if they want to join an alliance led by him.

Addressing a public meeting in Dindigul, he said, "Do you have the courage to fight the elections alone? We have the courage to fight the elections alone. I'm not worried about anything. We are not going to ask anyone. If DMK or AIADMK want, they can come and join us, if they join, it is good, if they don't even better,” he told Puthiya Thalaimurai.

The current Dharmapuri MLA has pitched himself as a a Chief Ministerial candidate for 2016 elections, despite being the only representative of the party in 234 seat assembly.

The party was part of DMK alliance in 2011 assembly elections and fought 2014 general elections along with BJP.

The party is strong in certain parts of northern Tamil Nadu, and draws its strengths from the Vanniyar community and garnered a vote share of 3% last time around.
