If plans go according to schedule, Chennai will get its Metro very soon. Built at the cost of Rs 4000 crore, the Koyambedu-Alandur line of the Metro in Chennai has got the final clearance nod for beginning operations . Even though clearance has been granted, there are certain conditions with the Metro set to operate only with a single track from Ashok Nagar till Alandur, reported The Hindu.As of now, the trains can run two ways ( both up and down) only between Koyambedu to Ashok Nagar. However, from Ashok Nagar to Alandur the Metro will run on a single track due to technical glitches, said the report. Train service beyond Ashok Nagar is expected to operate on both tracks only after completion of stations and the track till St. Thomas Mount. In April, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) SK Mittal carried out an inspection of the track. According to a Chennai Metro Rail Limited official, the CMRS will conduct an inspection by the end of the week or the next, said the report.The CMRS conducted inspections at Koyambedu, CMBT, Arumbakkam, Vadapalani and Ashok Nagar stations as a part of a second round of safety audit inspection in April.  Posted by Chennai Metro Rail on Wednesday, 22 April 2015(Image courtesy: Chennai Metro Facebook page)
