2016 has been a grim year so far, claiming the lives of several well-known personalities, including that of J Jayalalithaa, Tamil Nadu's popular Chief Minister, and now Cho Ramasamy, veteran journalist and political commentator.

The news of poet Vairumuthu -also Tamil cinema's beloved lyricist- being admitted to Apollo Hospitals on Wednesday hence made fans jittery. There were rumours that he had suffered a heart attack.

Luckily, Vairamuthu took to Twitter to assure both media and the public that he had only gone for his usual annual health check-up, and that he is in good health. He requested people not to panic and spread rumours.

He thanked everyone for bestowing him with such love and care, and also acknowledged the media's interest in the issue.
