The News Minute| September 2, 2014| 8.00 pm ISTIn order to clarify the reason for the cancellation of licence to Multi System Operator KAL Cable, the Additional Solicitor General of India, G Rajagopal has submitted a “confidential” report to the Madras High Court. The Ministry had decided not to give the company security clearance due to concerns of national security, economic interest and fare competition. He also said that he couldn’t understand the reason for the file not reaching the Ministry between 2006 and 2013.Senior Counsel P S Raman who appeared on behalf of Kal Cables said that the company had met all the criteria s needed for the licence and hadn’t been given a chance to present the case. He also said that if the reason for not providing clearance to the company was because of the Maran brothers connection, then it was objectionable. This point was held up by him saying that Kalanidhi Maran had resigned from Kal Cables in September 2009 and his brother Dayanidhi Maran resigned when he became a Union Minister in 2004. The Court is set to deliver a verdict on the issue by Friday according to Justice V Ramasubramanian, the same night for the deadline to Kal Cables to cut its signal and shut down operations.
