After a week of raids in the houses of various actors and producers, actor Vijay has denied all tax evasion allegations.

In a statement to the media on Tuesday, Vijay said that media reports which claimed that he had not paid taxes for the past five years were false. He said, “I have submitted the details of my income and assets particulars to the authorities until the current financial year.”

Ahead of the release of mega film Puli whose budget is around Rs 180 crore, inspections were carried out at 35 places in three states. Teams of IT officials conducted raids in Vijay’s house at Neelankarai in Chennai, actress Samantha's houses in Pallavaram and in Hyderabad and actress Nayanthara's houses in Tiruvalla and Thiruvananthapuram.

A senior income tax official told The Hindu that Vijay was liable for tax evasion and the department would soon come out with a statement. He stated, “The actor had evaded tax. It will be collected soon.”

Last week, a senior I-T investigator told The Times of India, “We have seized property deeds, mutual fund documents and other assets from them.” An amount of Rs 2 crore and gold worth Rs 2 crore were seized in the raid from the actors’ and producer’s properties.
